Between 3:30 AM EDT and posttime, over 3.5" of rain has fallen in West Cradock Portsmouth. This establishes a new daily record rainfall surpassing the previous record of 1.50" in 1985. The rainfall so far today also pushes our monthly total to near 7.75" yet another record surpassing the previous monthly precip record of 5.22" set in October 1983.

The month of August 1995 was the driest August on record since this station began records in 1976. The total precipitation for August 1995 was 1.33", some 3.87" below normal, or 26% of normal. The previous driest August was in 1983 with 1.67".

The string of consecutive days with daily high temperatures 90 degrees or above has apparently come to an end when the high temperature of 92 degrees occurred at 11:34 AM today. A cold front will pass overnight and high temperatures will be lucky to reach the upper 70's Monday.
